Where I Stand With Fashion Blogging

the reason i originally left blogging was because it was becoming so creepily competitive; it freaked me out. honestly, it wasn't about the clothes or the shoes or coordination anymore...it was about followers and numbers and sponsors. and it still sort of is....

i left because i didn't want to be part of that. of course, i continued to follow the blogs i loved (just reading) but i didn't post comments or create a blog. i just enjoyed. i don't like the idea of a bunch of little girls fighting over each other on the web. think about that. it should be about what makes you happy...and fashion makes me happy. that's why i'm doing this. i'm tired of two-word comments with a link...that tells me you really had nothing to say.

so my point is, don't ruin this for me (again). i just want to do what i love. if you want to say something, be sincere! i would love to get to know this community, i just want to know i'm talking to a real person.

  1. You are so right, that's why I never read comments or started blogging myself. This is the first time I visit your blog, and I was surprised, but very happy to see this post :)
Good luck! Looking forward to new posts of you :)
(ps: on my profile, there is a blog listed, but it's my sisters, so not mine :) and she thinks the exact same way as us about the commenting thing)

  2. Really good point, I'm glad you said this. I never post a comment unless I have something interesting or relevant to say. I usually leave a link just in case the blog owner wants to check my blog out, since I've found some great ones through my own comments. But I always read numerous posts from every blog I visit and try to make sure what I say will be interesting. I wish more people would do this. Followers should come from posting quality content, not leaving a billion meaningless "Cute outfit! xo" comments on every blog you can find.

  3. I love this post. I am new to blogging and I guess I am the new kid on the block who feels slightly ignored by the blogging community. It is just great to know there are people in this community who actually care about the blogging rather than all the other competitive stuff and makes me think making the effort sifting through repetitive stuff to find gems is well worth it :)

  4. So true! I understand the competitive side of it (I mean, blogging for a living? That would be awesome!), but I think that it takes away from the whole reason we blog in the first place. I really dislike those "I'm following you, follow me!" comments. Please don't leave! We'll be good, promise. ;)

  5. I've had my blog for awhile but never posted stuff till recently and I actually do notice the things you are mentioning.

Also, I want to thank you for your honest opinion on my previous post because I do agree, it could've been paired with better items but since I'm home for winter break, I didn't pack enough. Therefore, I was kind of stuck with working with what I had. Thanks for stopping by :)

  6. Perfectly said! Thank you so much for posting this. I had the same problem, I got so many messages with those "follow me, I'll follow you back" deals that I was pretty annoyed. I am so tired of those two-word messages with links, as you so well put it. And you've also explained really well the true reason behind fashionblogging which is quite simple in actuality--fashion itself. Not competition, not followers numbers, just pure fashion. And just wanting to meet people, and "get to know the community." I actually just did a post on this! http://thearcenciel.blogspot.com/2010/12/dont-pretend-like-you-know-me-so-well.html

  8. Very well said. Blogging should be fun and not competitive. The real world is competitive enough, hence, we dont really need all these additional crap. I never quite understand the whole idea about "giveaways" to increase number of followers or follow me, and I will follow you..
Sorry to hear that it didnt work out the first time. Hope this time gets better. At least you have some common sense.

On the smaller note: there are numerous occasions (in the beginning) when I wanted to quit blogging altogether because I felt like I was talking to the brick wall when no one responses. So, thanks for dropping a note and saying something nice and sincere. I am very flattered indeed!
