Sketch Me Happy

I think my sketches most represent my style. I can't really think of any words that will truly explain the things I love. I associate clothes with actions and events.

For example, the trench below would be worn while...robbing a bank!...

Do you remember these sketches? It's the Infiltration Trench Coat from a while back. I'm still infatuated by it.

I think this dress would be worn by the most envied woman to a cocktail party...

For those of you that asked, I am not a professional designer. I learned to sketch last year and I've just been practicing endlessly. I'm glad you're impressed though! It means so much to me. The rest of my sketches are here.

Would you wear any of these pieces?

Trinkets and Things

I'm immensely disappointed that I can't provide a neato outfit today. I haven't had time (the new classes are crashing down on me hard!) But, it's coming soon. For now, I'd like to give you some of my world...

My joker bobble head guards the fort while I sleep. Also, have you ever seen that octopus bangle!? It's so beautiful. I bought the necklace and my boyfriend bought the bangle.....but now I've lost the necklace--shame.

I believe I bought it at ModCloth, if you're interested. Also, Diya is hosting another challenge. Supposedly, this time we have to style a boyfriend blazer. I'm really excited!

Striped Mix Mess

just a moment ago i was going nuts with the camera. my boyfriend gets really nervous when i play with it. he thinks i'm clumsy...which is partially true; but i am quite careful when i mean to be!...

diya from in her stilettos posted a challenge on styling stripes so i decided on this...

i layered the stripes with more stripes! i love this button down. the blazer is perry ellis; one of my favorite blazers.
i also played around with this print blazer i love...

i don't think i've posted my face before so here it is! i was intensely focused, as you can see.

and finally, my roommate and i in our natural habitat. blazers are always on blast in my closet.

textile rush

i won't have an outfit post till tonight or tomorrow morning (at the latest) because i've been exceptionally busy with work and general life happenings. but i do still have to share some things that will, hopefully, inspire you like they did me.

i was reading ecouterre, one of my favorite sustainable fashion websites, and i came across some beautiful a-list designer sketches. you guys know how much i love to sketch...

best of all, these sketches are part of an initiative by the natural resources defense council to green the global textile supply chain. each of the notable names has designed a piece that will be including in their fall 2011 collections. and funds raised from the auction will go toward protecting the environment.

i've thought for some time that this field wasn't going to boom any time soon but i'm excited to see that these top desigers are willing to set an example. without further wait, here are their sketches:

jason wu for runway to green. probably my favorite...

tommy hilfiger; feeding my obsession with trench coats!!

alexander wang designed a beautiful (satin?) dress. i'm excited to see how this will turn out.

the roster is impressive, including names like oscar de la renta and rachey roy. i'm so excited. to read the rest of the story, hop over here to this page.

XL Fedoras

i haven't the confidence to show you my face today (after four classes, work and the gym, i'm not in the mood to redo my make up!!)... thus i've just posted the outfit for today.

these pieces have been my life for the past few days. i've mostly been throwing a t-shirt, scarf and jacket on since tuesday (when classes started!) so i'm not too proud of myself. i'm excited for the weekend since i can actually dress up then!!

i'm wearing a fall of troy t-shirt, f21 burgundy shirt, f21 jacket, charlotte russe scarf, and f21 men's fedora.

these boots are from vegan leather from lulu's...i love them.

also, guess what else came in!? i'm not sure if i wrote about these in my last post (or two) but my new skin routine came in. isn't it beautiful? yesterday was my first day using them...stay warm!!

The Test Drive

EEEEEEPPPP!! i can't tell you how excited i am right now. my boyfriend just got back with the camera. it's so cute. i haven't named it yet. i've just been messing around. he's working at the studio right now so i'm certain he's quietly dreading my clumsiness. don't worry! i'll take care of it!!...

here are some of the first pictures (i.e. me experimenting pointlessly)

the photo quality is driving me nuts!! i just love everything about it.

if you're wondering, i ended up getting the nikon coolpix l110, for a few reasons. when i do get a dslr, i want it to be the best performer out there, so i'd rather save up a ton and get a an amazing one.

for now, this nikon will do fine. and i'll love it just the same. can't wait for outfit posts!

Off The Editor's Desk!

i love titling posts. it's so much fun. anyway the good news is my man friend's mom has decided that she'd like to purchase the camera for us. this is good because....cameras are expensive!!! but since i still want to be helpful in some way, i'll probably be buying his PS3. fun fun.

do you know what that means? outfit posts! i've been excited to do these for months (since i found out about fashion blogging in june-ish)

until then, some inspiration for you ladies and lads:

these dresses are by victor & rolf, an amsterdam based fashion house.

...they give me some gorgeous design ideas. (sighhh)

Organic, Ethical, Eco: Part 1

i've decided to redo my morning and night skin regimen! sadly...

while i was rummaging through tons of youtube product reviews yesterday, i sort of melted at every eco-this and green-that. but really, they're just fancy words used in advertising. so i'm here to dig you all, my friends, out of the oil slick of advertising heaven...

rule 1: educate yourself about ingredients. the only way to actually know what a product will do to you is to know what it's subparts will do to your face. do you know what xanthan gum is? if it's in your face wash, you should!! don't spend time on ingredients you haven't seen on your labels (it's tough learning everything!) start with the ingredients on your labels, then move to recreational learning (if you'd like).

rule 2: check multiple sources. the highway to ignorance is sticking to one source for all your knowledge. i always check several websites and reviews to ensure there's some level of consistency about the effects of a product or ingredient.

rule 3: sidestep the claims. i never read what a company says about their own product. of course they will say good things (and use the most enticing vocabulary) about their product. i usually avoid it or ignore it.

rule 4: know your body. the better you know how your skin/body/hair reacts to ingredients, the more educated your purchases will be, the less time you have to suffer with dry/oily/itchy skin/hair etc.

follow these for any regimen changes! i recently switched to an organic (there i go using that word again!) skin regimen. i will be continuing this series with the definitions and effects of terminology used in products as well as some product reviews...stay tuned!!

The Infiltration Trench Coat

for some reason i can't keep my mind off trench coats. i've never owned a high quality trench coat and i've always wanted one. i purchased a coffeehouse trench once but the quality wasn't what i expected....

this is the inflitration trench coat in brown, ivory and sand.

when i was designing this i pictured a badass spy breaking into a top secret operation of some sort. or maybe pursuing a villain in her infiniti g35 (my dream car, btw).

also, is there anything you would like to see drawn up?

A Constructive World Trench Coat

i remember seeing a flattering pink trench coat on television when i was younger. it was on some sort of daytime talk show. it was so breathtaking it's been stuck in my memory since then. it was paired with fishnets and somehow remained classy as anything.

using the inspiration, i designed this; a constructive world trench coat:

it's very structured and modern. the name just comes from what i'm hoping we'll achieve in the future; a constructive world.
now to sketch some more monstrosities.

Eco Couture: Camilla Wellton

i spent most of today learning about photovoltaics and ethical fashion. i'm a total geek, i know. i just stumbled on some incredible, incredible finds though.

at first, i was nervous and disappointed with the variety in the sustainable fashion industry. i was feeling a little lost among the organic cotton t-shirts, each styled with a different pattern. i'm just not that simple, i'm afraid.

which is why i was so thrilled when i found camilla wellton's page which offers an incredible diversity of eco couture.

my favorites have to be the nut shrug (top right) which was inspired by my favorite ancient egyptian goddess and the dakini coat (bottom right)

i'm looking forward to investing in some of these pieces in the future!!

Moment Of Truth

my boyfriend purchased all my books for this semester so i can invest in a nice camera--i know!! isn't he an absolute sweetheart? anyhoo...i've been looking at a few different choices:

the first one i was looking at was the canon powershot (left)...
or the sony cybershot (right)... they're pretty similar in terms of what they offer.

my boyfriend proposed we go a step further and just buy a really high quality camera. nothing too crazy though. so we were looking at this nikon coolpix camera below.

are you any of you really experienced with cameras? any advice?
i could really use it!!

So I Can Trot

i'm not a girl that's been playing her wedding since she was three (i really don't understand that whole assumption) but i do love looking at wedding dress occasionally...here are some of my favorite lovelies:

i really want something strapless and wispy. i love the materials used in the pink and cream dresses above. i wouldn't mind a black dress either. color's not a big deal (as long as its not white!)

we'll see what happens (later, much later!)

Fine! One New Year's Resolution

alright, alright, i'll do it! i'm going to put down ONE new year's resolution. after accidentally coming across these beauties, i remembered my antique gold octopus heels from this summer.

i was really surprised to find that nothing like them had been made before (this was upsetting) so i sketched them up. i don't have high hopes as far as execution goes...but i would love to see them in the flesh.

if i could see these made before the end of these year...i'd be so happy!! so anyway that's my one new year's resolution...for now. i think i'll just add them as they come to me.

Scribble Scribble!

i was listening to a really funky swing song and somehow ended up sketching these sillies...

there was really no thought put into this so don't criticize too hard!! (hides)

my suitemate, heidi, bought me a fashion sketch book for christmas and i've been destroying it with my craziness! i love it though. i really can't get myself to put it away. i used to sketch a lot more during the summer so i'm glad it's coming back.

are you detecting a new year's resolution? i think i am. i've been avoiding making those for the last few days. i just don't want to make some and then not accomplish anything, you know? that feels like failure.

Where I Stand With Fashion Blogging

the reason i originally left blogging was because it was becoming so creepily competitive; it freaked me out. honestly, it wasn't about the clothes or the shoes or coordination anymore...it was about followers and numbers and sponsors. and it still sort of is....

i left because i didn't want to be part of that. of course, i continued to follow the blogs i loved (just reading) but i didn't post comments or create a blog. i just enjoyed. i don't like the idea of a bunch of little girls fighting over each other on the web. think about that. it should be about what makes you happy...and fashion makes me happy. that's why i'm doing this. i'm tired of two-word comments with a link...that tells me you really had nothing to say.

so my point is, don't ruin this for me (again). i just want to do what i love. if you want to say something, be sincere! i would love to get to know this community, i just want to know i'm talking to a real person.

Most Coveted: January 2011

to keep track of all things i want and will (possibly) get...i've decided to start this most coveted post series.

basically, i'll just be updating, every month, the list of things i would love to see, hold, have...

for this month, my collection ended up having a lot of antiqued jewelry and utility pieces:

i know for sure i'll be getting the black pumps. not only are they cute alone, but i need them for professional meetings and whatnot. of all these pieces, i adore the unicorn necklace and the stellar system dress the most (hailing at $18 and $133, respectively)....

i'll let you know if these make it into my closet!!
