Food | Super Shrimp Pasta

Today I decided to shut everything off for a few hours and dedicate myself to making this meal. Normally I'd throw some peanut butter on pita bread for lunch but I had time so I figured I'd concoct something more elaborate. This is a mix of fresh mushrooms, olives, shrimp, cilantro, alfredo sauce and pasta!

The only way I've ever ever cooked shrimp is a 4 step process:

1. Slice onions into thick sections and layer at the bottom of a saucepan.
2. Throw in fresh or frozen shrimp (doesn't matter...it will steam either way)
3. Coat the shrimp in cumin powder!
4. Add a small amount of water and steam for 10 minutes (per pound)

That's pretty much it. It seems to work every single time. Share your methods if you have anything interesting! I'm sure there's more I could be doing...

The veggies got a very different treatment. I hand sliced the mushroom into thick slices and just threw the olives into a food processor for olive bits. Then they were both tossed into a saucepan and sautéed for a few minutes.

I topped the dish of with some cilantro because I like seeing green in my food. Done!

Om nom nom.

Outfit | The Sky Takes

Old Bandana via Hot Topic (Similar), AJ Morgan Sunnies c/o PLNDR, Running Wild Cropped Tee c/o Romwe, Oversized Boyfriend Jeans via Forever 21 (Similar)
Funny how I was just talking about never wearing this top. I met up with Mahria today and as soon as I mentioned I had it with me (originally for yoga later) she demanded that I change into it. It worked out because it's probably a good 566 degrees outside. The heat made it a little bit more appropriate.

We chatted about jobs, clothes, ended up losing Mahria's folder of EVERYTHING EVER and needed to run around to find it. During all this I managed to close the car door on her hand ~ seriously, I'm so sorry. It was fun. Shout out to CJ for making time in his super busy schedule to be a moron with us. We wuv you.

Also, how wicked does my hair look here!? Almost looks like it's alive...

I love this outfit. And the adorable bun!

Not sure what I was applauding; probably the soup at Au Bon Pain. It's phenomenal.

New In | Stars and Stuff

Thrifted Crazy Horse Pullover! I've worn this a few times already.
Waaoohhh. It's been a while since I've done a post with new stuff. I'm pretty sure I missed a few things (got a new hair straightener that's not in this post!) but here are the things that were close enough to photograph without exerting much effort. Oh my god I'm so lazy. Help. [Rolls around on the floor]

John Frieda Full Repair Hairspray (Sample Size), Andrea Eye Q Makeup Remover Pads, A Cheap Candle
Dorky Owl Necklace c/o Romwe (Here's a similar one that I actually like a little better)
They (Romwe) also sent along this Running Wild Cropped Tee...The material is so soft and perfect for summer but I'm  not sure how I'll wear it without attracting too much attention. I like to be subtle.
This is the one thing I picked out from the Romwe order! I loved galaxy print stuff long before it became a trend so I'm happy to see it's so accessible now. Here's a similar one. Also c/o Romwe.
This one isn't new but I found it while getting rid of my unused clothing. It's a pretty easy wear.
Time to go nom watermelon and watch Lost! See you on the other side. [Salute]

Outfit | Prancing Pants

American Eagle Aviator Shades, Thrifted Hawaii Shirt, Forever 21 Jeans (Buy Here), Spring 2012 Platform Sandals c/o De Siena, Two Piece Ring c/o Romwe, and PENNY!
I tried my hand at chicken meatballs today (roughly following this recipe) and they actually came out pretty good. It's nice having access to a kitchen again; I seriously missed cooking during school.

One other thing I'm proud of is my yoga session this morning. Have you guys ever seen Meghan Currie's videos? She's amazing. She's a yoga instructor and she posts some of her yoga sessions online. Yesterday, I started my 30 Day Yoga Challenge.

Here's another outfit with the lovely shoes De Siena gifted me. I haven't worn them anywhere eventful yet. In fact, I'm sort of nervous to wear them. Do you guys get that way with special shoes? I really love this dopey vacation shirt. I'm surprised somebody actually threw it out...

Penny loves you!

Life | Penny Flies

Remember when I got Penny on Valentine's Day? That was a pretty exciting moment. Now, moving back home, I realize I actually don't have much space for all the little ladies and lads. A handful of the stuffed animal family are currently living in the bottom of my mobile closet. They've got all their knick knacks with them too.

They keep playing rounds of Egyptian Ratscrew (the card game) and freaking out every time someone gets a sandwich. The other half of them are reading Michel Foucault's Discipline and Punish. Normally I'd object, considering the content, but I actually rather enjoyed that piece, particularly the section on Panopticism.

The snapshot above is from a few weeks back--playing super flying pony with Penny. The wicked ring is from Romwe

Outfit | Power and Control

H&M Top, BB Dakota Georgina Skirt c/o PLNDR, Chinese Laundry Frame of Mind Heels via ModCloth
Isn't it funny how stocking up on winter clothes can bring summer faster? My grandmother gifted me the cutest scarf (with pockets!) and I have to store it away until next winter. But, I'm happy it's finally warmer; Northeast winters can be so brutal.

Also! I don't think I mentioned it in my last post but I'm officially a graduate! Feels kind of surreal to be done with school. It's all I've really done (besides work and the blog) for the past 4 years; I'm still acclimating to home life and immeasurable freedom. An official soup-making session is in order...

ALSO! Have any of you heard the new Marina and the Diamonds album, Electra Heart? It's crazy good. Albums usually have 1 or 2 hits but this one was just incredible all around. My favorite right now is Power and Control.

Designer | Spring + Summer 2012

1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6

This season's shoes are crazy good. These are my top 6. My two absolute favorites are the Esquivel Gold Derby Shoes (1) and the Mulberry Ankle Boots (6). I love the braid detail on the Mulberrys. Reed Krakoff really knocked it out of the park with his sandals too. I love the color palette of all the shoes he released this season ~ especially that lively coral.

There was one other pair that would've made the list if not for some strange details. I love these Lanvin Metallic Brogues I just wish they skipped the out of place stitching on the front...

Outfit | The Princess + The Wolf

Brocade Print Scarf via Charlotte Russe (Old), Wool Cardigan c/o Romwe, Jeans via Forever 21, Spring 2012 Platform Sandals c/o De Siena
It's pretty hilarious looking at photos of myself in outfits that completely contradict my personality. A lot of people that know me personally will tell you that all I like to do is doodle ugly lions and listen to electro swing music in my jammies.

But, I do love this outfit. The scarf was my mom's pick from a few years back; she's always trying to get me to wear more pink...or just color in general. She always says, "Pink is for younger women." I think that's silly. The shoes are a lovely gift from De Siena. I'm learning to walk in these quite quickly.

New In | De Siena + NARS

If you follow me on Facebook, you already know about these.

When I first learned I had won these De Siena Platform Sandals in a giveaway, I was still half asleep. It wasn't until later in the day that I actually went back to look at the sandals--and that's when my jaw hit the floor. $634.50? I stared at the screen feeling nauseous. I've never owned anything that expensive...and certainly not a pair of shoes. It was a pretty ridiculous moment.

They are as stunning as I expected my first pair of designer heels to be. Thank you to Francesco, Creative Director at De Siena. I'll be posting a full outfit with the heels as well as an interview with Francesco later in the week. So stay tuned!

A little bit less impressive but still exciting! I received these graduation gifts today. I'm especially psyched to try the NARS Cream Eyeshadow. I've never owned any NARS products but I've always heard good things. The other products are all Shiseido: Luminizing Satin Face Color, 'The Makeup' Eyebrow Pencil, and Perfect Mascara Defining Volume.

I also got a handful of cash...which I think will go straight to my DSLR. Thank you everyone for all the gifts! You've made my year.

Inspiration | To Court

{ To Court }

Feeling pretty peachy about this set. It's nice to just sit down and focus on creating something aesthetically pleasing...even if it is in the middle of hurricane of unpacked boxes.
